NJ Department of Community Affairs (DCA)

The DCA oversees the Uniform Construction Code in New Jersey and authorizes private on-site inspection agencies. Visit the DCA website for official regulations, code updates, and licensing information.

Understanding the UCC

The Uniform Construction Code (UCC) is New Jersey’s building code, covering construction standards for buildings, electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical systems, and fire protection. All new construction and renovations must comply with the UCC.

Permitting Process

Before construction begins, a construction permit must be obtained from the local construction official. The permit process includes plan review and approval, followed by required inspections at various stages of construction.
